What the Heck is Snapchat and Should my Restaurant be on it?

You’ve probably heard a lot about Snapchat, the photo-messaging app that allows users to send photos, videos, or drawings to friends or a group of friends. All of which are deleted within 1-10 seconds. Snapchat has 178 million daily active users sharing more than 9,000 snaps per second which it why it remains a valuable platform to reach today’s generation of buyers. If you’re like most restaurateurs, you see Snapchat as another app for millennials with little value to your business. However, if you learn how to leverage Snapchat, you can build an interactive and engaged following of millennials who feel connected to your business.

Snapchat has been growing since its original launch and now has plenty of business uses on the app. So, how can you use Snapchat for your restaurant? Learn how to get set up with Snapchat and a few good tips to attract new customers to your restaurant.

1. SET UP YOUR RESTAURANT ON SNAPCHAT

Download the app to your Apple or Android smartphone. Use your restaurant’s name as the username and add the city at the end if your restaurant name is common or unavailable.

2. SNAP OFFERS, COUPONS OR DISCOUNT CODES

This is a great way to get customers to follow you on Snapchat. Once they add you, you can send them a snap of a coupon. This will attract more customers to follow you, tell their friends and feel connected to your restaurant or brand when they receive a snap directly from you.

3. ENCOURAGE CUSTOMERS TO SNAP

You already know how effective word-of-mouth advertising can be. Snapchat offers another similar opportunity. Getting your customers to send snapchats at your restaurant to their friends is a great way to reach those millennials. It’s less interfering on your end, doesn’t look like advertising and it seems more legit coming from friends. You can do this by offering your customers a small discount, a free drink or something else for snapping their food and sending it to their friends.

4. CREATE A SNAPCHAT GEOFILTER FOR YOUR RESTAURANT

When you take a snap and start swiping left or right you’ll notice there are unique logos that appear over your picture that is called a Geofilter. Snapchat allows you to create Geofilters that are specific to your brand in a specific geographic location (aka your restaurant). Your customers who are sending snaps at your restaurant can then add the filter to their photos and videos, creating brand awareness.

Snapchat offers endless opportunities to target millenials and help your business grow. These are just a few tips to push you into the right direction. Learn several other ways Snapchat can help you grow your business here
