Vegan is Trending in Restaurants

As more Americans gain awareness of the environmental and health impacts of the diet they eat, plant-based eating is surging in popularity. Diners are looking for more vegetarian, vegan, and plant-based options, and want more than just a basic salad to fulfil their veggie craving. Vegan is now cool, so it’s important to make sure your restaurant stays ahead of the curve.

Vegan Is Going Mainstream

Research points to plant-based diets as a environmentally friendly alternative to eating animal products, not to mention the mounting evidence that it’s great for your health. Plant-based diets can be beneficial for those looking to reduce their risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, obesity, and diabetes, so it’s no wonder that consumers are demanding more vegetarian options at their favorite restaurants.

30 percent of adults in the US say they eat a meatless protein at least one meal a week, and initiatives like Meatless Monday are picking up steam. While most do this because of the health benefits, many are also taking note of the conditions at factory farms. Those who are concerned with animal welfare often see consuming less meat as an ideal way to cut into the profits of cruel factory farms. 

While the reasons for going meatless vary, there is no doubt that the trend will continue in the coming years. More and more popular chain restaurants are offering options like the Impossible Burger, a plant-based burger that aims to look, smell, and taste like meat. Dave & Busters, White Castle, Wahlburgers and more have added the Impossible Burger to their menu to appeal to plant-based diners.

Keeping Up With The Trend

To stay on top of the plant-based trend, it’s important to offer at least a few vegetarian and vegan options on your menu. There are plenty of plant-based meat available on the market, from sausages made of soy, to wings made from seitan. Salads with a variety of dressings, toppings, nuts and seeds, or pasta dishes made from spiralized veggies can spice up your menu and let your customers know that you’re focused on bringing them unique, healthy, high quality dishes. Plant-based dishes are a chance to get creative without using animal products.
